Churches
Many of the area's churches in Mineral County showcase the rich history of the region. One notable church is the Claysville Church, which was built in 1850. Its congregation was formed in 1848 and during the Civil War, it served as a place of worship for both the union and confederate armies. Another significant church is the Eusebia Presbyterian Church in Patterson Creek, which was the first building in the county specifically constructed for worship.
Farms
Mineral County is proud to have three farms designated as Bicentennial Farms by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Sunnyside and Rebel's Retreat in Reeses Mill, as well as the Wagoner farm in Dan's Run, are all operating farms that have been in existence for over 200 years.
Fort Ashby
Completed in November 1775, Fort Ashby is the sole remaining fort out of the original chain of 69 established by General George Washington to protect the Virginia frontier from Indian attacks. The fort is currently owned by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and opens its doors every December for a 1775 Christmas reenactment organized by the local 4-H club.
The Log House
Nestled by a tranquil stream, The Log House serves as a reminder of a bygone era. It was originally a way station where stagecoaches would stop to change horses. Today, the log house has been converted into an antique shop, offering visitors a unique shopping experience. The site also features special yearly events that showcase the rich history of the area.
Saddle Mountain
One of the notable natural attractions in Mineral County is Saddle Mountain. This unique mountain formation can be admired from the Route 50 overlook. Its scenic beauty and captivating views make it a must-visit spot for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.
Nancy Hanks Birthplace
Located five acres south of Antioch and east of the scenic Saddle Mountain, the Nancy Hanks Birthplace marks the site where Nancy Hanks, the mother of President Abraham Lincoln, was born in 1782. A memorial marker has been erected to commemorate this historical event, allowing visitors to learn more about the birthplace of one of America's most revered presidents.
